This is a rebuttal to the 8th alleged Bible contradiction

Question #8: Can the dead be tortured for their sins?

These are the verses Evans presented to make his claim.

In the 'no' category, we have

Ecclesiastes 9:10, Romans 6:7,
and in the 'yes' category, we have
Matthew 13:42,50, Luke 16:19-31, Revelation 20:10.
Note: If I find verses to be repetitive, I may decide not to quote them.

No:

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device,
nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. -- Ecclesiastes 9:10
*
For he that is dead is freed from sin. -- Romans 6:7

Yes:

And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing
of teeth. -- Matthew 13:42
*
Luke 16:19-31. This is the parable of the rich man who went to hell. The reader
is encouraged to read it, as well as the entire Book of Luke.
*
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone,
where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night
for ever and ever. -- Revelation 20:10

My answer

Clearly, those who die unsaved in the Church Age (the current Dispensation) will be
in torment (not torture) in hell, awaiting to be thrown into the Lake of Fire later
on. The Antichrist and his False Prophet will be thrown into the Lake of Fire. I'm not
sure as to the level of torment given to those lost souls who died in previous
Dispensations, but they too will have their final abode in the Lake of Fire.

Mr. Evans would have us believe that just because there is no work, device, knowledge,
or wisdom in the grave [Ecclesiastes 9:10] that there is of necessity no torment 'in the
grave' as well. I don't see the logic of that conclusion. In any case, as I have stated
before 1) the Bible presents itself to us as a slowly progressive revelation of the
doctrine of hell to the reader. And 2) I do not go to the Book of Ecclesiastes to get the
best knowledge on the doctrine of hell. Mr. Evans is free to treat all the books of the
Bible as equally authoritative, but I do not. The Book of Ecclesiastes falls pretty low
in my list of authoritative books of the Bible on most topics, though it is a 'book
of wisdom'.

Concerning Romans 6:7, the whole thing is a misinterpretation. The entire chapter of
Romans 6 is a metaphor of being 'dead' to sin but alive to Christ and His power to
help us walk holy and righteously in the present world. It is not referring to literal
physical death. It's referring to a mindset in which the true believer says to himself
or herself: "I don't do those things of sin anymore, which I did as an unbeliever."
That is, to reckon ourselves 'dead' to sin, which is to say, to no longer participating in
the activities of sin.

Question 9: Can humans be sacrificed?

Remember this: The righteous are mindful of the poor and help them; the wicked do not! (Proverbs 29:7)
